A conversation with Départ

Départ recently shared a two-track EP with us and we wanted to know more about the flourishing Turkish duo who are making waves across the electronic spectrum. In the last cycle around the sun, the composers shared music on imprints such as Kindisch, Sol Selectas, UnderYourSkin and reimagined an incredible acoustic version of Nu - Who Loves The Sun.

Their creative visions were captured in their recent Lost For Ages EP, a textured story into the unknown between space and time. We are excited to explore their universes in a conversation with multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Batu Boris and the talented producer Omeria.

Where's the name Départ come from and what's the story behind it ?

Two strangers’ path's headed to their own unknown crossed surprisingly, at that specific moment they knew that this was a beginning for both of them, a new departure. Hence, Départ.

Where are your influences come from?

We usually try to translate our day to day emotions and experiences through our music, words that are not spoken, feelings that are buried.

Tell us about your creative process around the Lost for Ages EP?

We made those 2 tracks during quarantine while we were away from each other as a duo, the lyrics reflect what we were going thru at that moment on both of the songs, they just took the subject on different perspectives :) It was a very quick production moment we made both tracks in less than 4 days.

Favorite object in the studio ?

Omeria: Headphones

Batu Boris: Piano

Favorite midnight snack ?

Omeria: Caju (Cashew)

Batu Boris: Burgers (yes that counts as a snack hahaha)

What's on the horizon for you?

Our destination remains unknown :) we just know that it's full of surprises!
