Behind-the-scenes look at Maty Owl’s Fireflies

We take a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the music video of Maty Owl’s Fireflies. It was inspired by everyday experiences and brought to life through the collaboration of a team of talented artists. The result is a beautiful and cinematic visual that perfectly captures the essence of the music. Join us as we explore the creative process behind this ambitious project and see how it all came together to create something truly special.

“I got the idea for this song unexpectedly, like many of my other songs. Sometimes, I get inspiration from doing everyday things, like making coffee or riding my bike. One day, I saw a firefly on a farm at my family’s cottage and immediately had an imaginary scene in mind. Certain things bring a magical atmosphere that is interesting to portray in an abstract way, both musically and visually. We made a video that tells the whole story.

I already had a song ready, and I knew which record label I wanted to work with, Saisons Musique. The song fit well with the label's identity, and they liked it enough to release it and I had already mentioned the idea of making a video.

At this point, I realized that this was the most ambitious project I had ever worked on, and I couldn't do it alone. Eduardo Borges, the director behind the storyboard and contextualization of the history of music, embraced the idea, and we started working together. He created the storyboard and had some aesthetic ideas for the motion. Then, we defined the parameters for the film's look.”

“Mateus was responsible for the sound, and I had to define mainly sensations from the music. We had to make sure that our perspectives on the music matched, and we defined the storyboard together. We had a story for the film itself, but we also left it implied so that each person could interpret it in their own way. We decided to add some people to the story and asked them to also be figures in the film itself.

We had some challenges during post-production, like three days with completely different climates and some scenes that needed a night aspect. We managed to create a cinematic atmosphere for the film. We also had to make sure that all the scenes were beautiful and well aligned, so it was a very challenging process.”

“We experimented a lot with particles in scenes, and sometimes we got a cool result, but it wasn't so cool. We had to make sure that everything matched the concept that I imagined. We also added an abstract scene with fireflies, and it matched perfectly.

I hope you enjoy the result. We worked with a lot of care and dedication on this project, which is very ambitious and took on an ever-increasing form and scope. We made a visual on top of a beautiful song so that it could convey something to someone. I would like to thank everyone who participated in and added to the project, Marcela Sardagna, who created the stunning choreography and acrobatics, Maikon Barbi who captured the drone shots and assisted with direction, Marlon Heinrich Anselmo who documented the ‘’Behind the scenes’’ and Natália Seidel as a camera assistance.”
